Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
These Terms govern your use of howtostudychess (the “Service”), an AI chess-coaching application. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. You must provide accurate information and be old enough to form a binding contract in your country. You may not share your account or use it on behalf of others without permission.
Plans and billing
- The Service offers a free plan and a paid “Pro” plan billed monthly or annually.
- Payments are processed by our payment partners — Stripe (international) and Razorpay (India). We do not store your full card details.
- Pro subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Settings → Plan & billing; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
- Prices may change; we will give notice before a change affects your renewals.
- See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details on cancellations and refunds.
Acceptable use
Don’t misuse the Service: no attempts to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer it, no unlawful use, and no interference with other users. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.
Intellectual property
The Service, its content, and coaching materials are owned by us or our licensors. The Stockfish chess engine is used under the GPLv3 — see our open-source licenses. You retain ownership of the game data you import or create.
Educational nature & disclaimer
Coaching and analysis are provided for learning and are offered “as is,” without warranties of any kind. While explanations are grounded in a chess engine, we do not guarantee any particular result or rating improvement.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms or where required by law.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new “last updated” date; continued use means you accept the updated Terms.
